Our Story
We met on MySpace, of all places. He loved my profile, I loved his dimples. After a few flirtatious emails and phone calls, we met for the first time. I didn't want him to leave, ever. I knew that he was someone so precious that I should hang on to him like a life raft on a sinking ship. Justin believes in me in a way that only he can- with firm, loving, strong methods that help keep me grounded when I get frenetic.
Justin developed Type 2 diabetes in November 2007, and we struggled to find a way to get through. We have fought through some very serious and trying times, including a recent bout with DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) that left Justin on the brink of death. He was in intensive care for two days. He was also diagnosed with a depressive disorder called Dysthymia that gives him debilitating anxiety attacks and keeps him from being truly happy.
We have fought through so many hardships together, we were sure that planning and paying for our wedding would be easy. That turned out NOT to be the case. After a series of family losses on Justin's side including his uncle and his great-grandmother, and my mother being diagnosed with breast cancer on September of 2010, we could not even begin to ask our family to help us. We are both working hard to get through our Associates' Degrees, and I will be done in July. Justin will be done in November. After I lost my job in December of 2009, our financial status went to a very bad place. I got the job that I work at now in July of 2010. We are just now getting ourselves caught up, and still owe some friends and family money that we desperately want to pay back, but can't do so for fear of falling into debt somewhere else. We are grateful that they understand and have been patient. We want to do this on our own, but it's just not possible. If every person that visits our site contributes even $5, we would be able to pay for the traditional scottish wedding that would make our dreams come true.
